News
News items are for time-sensitive content that benefits from source attribution and priority metadata. Use the News content type for press releases, company announcements, product launch notices, and curated industry news. Unlike blog posts, News items typically have a shorter shelf life and may carry a source link pointing to an external origin.
News List
The main News view shows all news items across your sites in a board layout. You can switch between list, card, and table views.
Key fields shown in the list:
- Headline: The news item title.
- Site: Which site this item belongs to.
- Source: External origin of the news (optional).
- Priority: High, Normal, or Low — controls display order on the public site.
- Status: Draft, Under Review, Scheduled, Published, or Archived.
- Published at: When the item was or will be published.
Filtering and search:
- Filter by site, status, priority, or date range.
- Search by headline or content.
- Sort by date, priority, or status.
Creating News Items
Click New News Item to create a new entry.
Required fields:
- Headline: The news title.
- Site: Which site this item belongs to.
Optional fields:
- Source name: The originating publication or organization.
- Source URL: A direct link to the original piece (used for attribution).
- Priority: High for urgent announcements, Normal for standard news, Low for background items.
- Expiry date: Automatically archive the item after a given date.
- Featured image: A visual for cards and OpenGraph.
- Summary: Short description used in feed cards and meta.
- SEO fields: Meta title, meta description, canonical URL.
- Categories / tags: Organizational groupings and labels.
Priority Levels
Priority is a display signal, not a workflow gate.
- High: Shown at the top of news feeds. Use for major announcements or breaking news.
- Normal: Standard chronological position.
- Low: Deprioritized in feeds. Good for background updates or minor notices.
Tips:
- Only a few items should be High priority at any time. Overusing High dilutes its effect.
- Priority is a site-visitor signal, not an editorial urgency indicator. Use Review for workflow urgency.
Expiry Dates
Setting an expiry date moves the news item to Archived automatically at the specified time. This is useful for:
- Time-limited promotions
- Event announcements with a hard end date
- Seasonal campaigns
The item is not deleted when it expires — it is simply archived and can be restored manually.
Source Attribution
When news items originate from an external publication or announcement, use the Source fields to attribute correctly.
- Source name: Shown publicly as the item origin.
- Source URL: Linked from the source name on the public site.
Why it matters:
Proper attribution builds credibility, especially for industry news roundups or curated press coverage.
